Talk
talk nineteen to the dozen = talk fast: "She was so excited that she was talking nineteen to the dozen."
talk the hind legs off a donkey = talk without stopping: "She can talk the hind legs off a donkey!"
talk something through / over = to discuss something: "Before we decide anything, I think we ought to talk it through."
talk something up = to make something appear more important: "She really talked the idea up, but I don't think that everyone was convinced."

You wouldn't believe half the things they could do: Why, one said "Good morning," as plainly as you. One played the piano, and one, dressed in lace, Walked up to a mirror and powdered her face.
Well, when we were ready we stepped in the hall, And there was a lady a-coming to call. She said she just chanced to be passing that way, And she really had only a minute to stay.
We waited and waited, and hoped she would go, Till I saw it was almost the time for the show, For I heard the clocks striking all over the town, And I knew that the dollies would all be run down.
And so I just said, "I should s'pose, Mrs. Black, Your little girl wonders why don't you come back." That's all that I spoke, every 'dentical word; But she said, "Little girls should be seen and not heard."
I guess that's a proverb, so maybe 'tis true; But, if people won't see, what can little girls do? My mamma looked queer, but that ended the call, And we went to the Dollies' Bazaar, after all.

اينطور كه فكر مي كني (به نظر مي آيد ) نيست . منظوري ندارم.

در هنگام بحث درباره موضوعي خاص با بيان عبارت فوق اين مسئله را تاكيد ميكنيد كه ممكن است در اين ارتباط شغلتان را از دست بدهيد.

بذار حرم دلم را (عقده دلمو) برايت باز كنم.
13- I want you to turn in the man who did it to the police.
از شما مي خواهم اون مردي كه اين كار را انجام داده به پليس معرفي كنيد.

به دو مثال ديگر توجه كنيد:

به چند مترادف ديگر توجه كنيد:

من مي خوام شكايت كنم.
توضيحات:
معمولا اين عبارت در مراكز قانوني (اداره پليس يا دادگستري) جهت اعلان شكايت از شخص يا سازماني مطرح مي شود.
17- Your behavior is quite out of line. That’s the end. Shape up, or ship out.
رفتارت ديگر قابل تحمل نيست (از حد خودت خارج شدي) ديگه تمام شد يا خودت را درست كن يا از اينجا برو بيرون.

IELTS يا International English Language Testing System يك امتحان زبان انگليسي است و از اعتباري بين المللي برخوردار ميباشد. اين امتحان معياري است جهت سنجش دانش زبان انگليسي اشخاصي كه ميخواهند در كشورهاي انگليسي زبان درس بخوانند، كار كنند و يا به آن كشورها مهاجرت نمايند. امتحان IELTS با همكاري مشترك دانشگاه كمبريج، كنسولگري انگلستان و سازمان IDP استراليا برگزار ميشود. اين امتحان از بالاترين و معتبرترين استانداردهاي بين المللي جهت سنجش سطح زبان انگليسي داوطلبان پيروي ميكند و چهار توانائي Writing ،Reading ،Listening و Speaking را مورد ارزيابي قرار ميدهد. بسياري از دانشگاهها در كشورهاي مختلفي همچون كانادا، انگلستان، استراليا، نيوزلند و آمريكا امتحان IELTS را به رسميت مي شناسند. همچنين جهت مهاجرت به كشورهاي كانادا، استراليا و نيوزلند، داشتن مدرك IELTS الزامي است. اين امتحان در بيش از 270 مركز امتحاني واقع در 110 كشور مختلف دنيا برگزار ميگردد. شركت كنندگان در امتحان IELTS به طيف وسيعي از سوالات بسيار ساده تا بسيار مشكل پاسخ ميدهند. نمره هر بخش از امتحان بين صفر تا 9 ميباشد. نمره كلي امتحان با معدل گيري از نمره چهار بخش امتحان محاسبه مي گردد. در كارنامه IELTS، علاوه بر نمره كلي، نمره هر بخش بطور جداگانه ذكر مي شود. تعبير هر كدام از نمره هاي صفر تا 9 مطابق جدول زير صورت ميپذيرد:
هر دانشگاه براي پذيرش متقاضيان حداقل نمره اي را مشخص ميكند و اكثر آنها حداقل نمره كلي 6.5 را مي خواهند بطوريكه نمره هر بخش هم از 6 كمتر نباشد (البته اين قاعده كلي است و هر دانشگاه شرايط خاص خود را دارد). به عنوان مثالي ديگر، براي اينكه حداكثر امتياز زبان انگليسي را جهت مهاجرت به كانادا كسب نماييد، بايد در هر چهار قسمت امتحان IELTS حداقل نمره 7 بگيريد. در روز امتحان ابتدا به سوالات Listening سپس به سوالات Reading و بعد به سوالات Writing پاسخ خواهيد داد. تاريخ و ساعت برگزاري قسمت Speaking در روز امتحان به شركت كنندگان اعلام ميشود و معمولا امتحان Speaking از عصر روز امتحان شروع شده و بمدت 5 روز ادامه مي يابد. داوطلباني كه از شهرهاي ديگر به تهران مي آيند، براي امتحان Speaking در اولويت هستند و بايد در هنگام ثبت نام، اسم خود را در ليستي جداگانه به ثبت برسانند. تمامي مراحل كتبي امتحان بايد با مداد نوشته شود و داوطلبان اجازه استفاده از خودنويس يا خودكار را در هيچ مرحله اي از امتحان كتبي ندارند. نتايج امتحان IELTS دو هفته پس از پايان يافتن آزمون Speaking اعلام خواهد شد و كارنامه فقط به شخص امتحان دهنده داده مي شود و از طريق تلفن، فكس و يا email قابل در يافت نيست. همچنين از تاريخ امتحان تا مدت 90 روز حق شركت مجدد در امتحان را نداريد. تا 5 كارنامه براي دانشگاهها و موسسات مورد در خواست شما بصورت رايگان توسط دفاتر برگزار كننده امتحان ارسال مي گردد، بشرطيكه از تار يخ امتحان شما يكماه نگذشته باشد. اگر بيشتر از يكماه از تاريخ امتحانتان سپري شود و يا بيشتر از 5 كارنامه بخواهيد برايتان ارسال بشود، به ازاي هر كارنامه بايد مبلغي را بپردازيد. اكثر دانشگاهها كارنامه IELTS را كه بيشتر از دو سال از تاريخ آن گذشته باشد، قبول ندارند. امتحان IELTS در دو نوع Academic و General Training برگزار ميشود. امتحان Academic مخصوص كساني است كه ميخواهند در يك دانشگاه انگليسي زبان ادامه تحصيل دهند در حاليكه امتحان General Training مخصوص كساني است كه ميخواهند به يك كشور انگليسي زبان مانند كانادا، استراليا و يا نيوزلند مهاجرت كنند. همانطور كه گفته شد، در امتحان IELTS، توانائيهاي Writing ،Reading ،Listening و Speaking در چهار قسمت جداگانه سنجيده ميشوند. در حاليكه قسمتهاي Listening و Speaking براي داوطلبان Academic و General Training به روش كاملا مشابهي مورد ارزيابي قرار ميگيرد، هر يك از اين دو گروه سوالات جداگانه اي در قسمتهاي Reading و Writing دريافت ميكنند. مسوليت نوع امتحاني كه ميخواهيد در آن شركت نمائيد بر عهده شماست و بايد در هنگام ثبت نام، نوع امتحان مورد نظرتان را در فرم ثبت نام قيد كنيد. جداول ذيل قسمتهاي مختلف امتحان IELTS را تشريح مينمايند:
